Design Guidelines for Downtown Newton/North Newton Historic Districts I and II, and environs

Harvey County, Kansas

June 22, 2011

DGs CoverHi everyone,

We have submitted a final draft of the Design Guidelines that you can download here. To the best of our ability, we have incorporated all the comments and suggestions made by the HPC into this draft.

Click here for the PDF (4.3MB, *.pdf)

Click here for the original Microsoft Publisher file (53MB, *.pub)

There are a few items to note:

1. The MAP of the Environs on page 14 is new. When we were together last we talked about setting the buffer along street lines in order to make it easier to understand and to reduce ambiguity from the earlier map.

2. I changed photos wherever we had talked about using different ones, to eliminate business names and make things clearer.

3. I added a sentence about the use of neon to 10.3 (page 42) to let you all have flexibility for buildings that were constructed during the mid-20th century, where neon might have been appropriate. Please let me know what you think.

4. I eliminated lots of typos and cleared up some language where needed.

5. I eliminated the notion that there would be a Glossary (not needed I think).

As a reminder, my email is glen.payne@gmail.com, and my phone number is 859-797-0048. I'm open to any last suggestions or comments you all might have!
